DATO’ DOMINIC PUTHUCHEARY

Dato’ Dominic Puthucheary was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1971 and he is regarded as one of the nation’s prominent constitutional lawyers. Dato’ Dominic is widely acknowledged for his expertise in constitutional law, defamation, arbitration and dispute resolution. His clients include royalties, State Governments and multinationals. Among others, Dato’ Dominic has represented a State Ruler before the Special Court convened by the Chief Justice on a constitutional matter involving the subject of sovereign immunity. He has also acted as the Legal Advisor to the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste on a sovereignty dispute with the Commonwealth of Australia. Dato’ Puthucheary has wide experience in handling a number of major arbitrations, both at the national and international levels under the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the New York Convention involving construction issues. He is empaneled as an Arbitrator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC). He was also active in politics, where he was formerly a Member of Parliament for the Nibong Tebal constituency. Dato’ Puthucheary has also served as the President of the Royal Lake Club, which is one of the oldest social clubs in Malaysia.
